L’Etoile Du Nord Converts to Pop Up Only – For Now

LDN PopUp Dinner

Hello Everyone! Effective today, we’ll be solely focusing on our pop-up dinners and discontinuing our breakfast and lunch service so we an focus our energies on the next phase for the café.

In opening L’Etoile Du Nord, our vision was to create a business that upheld our principals of protecting the environment through sustainability and conservation, as well as supporting and showcasing the bounty of the St. Croix Valley and nearby communities. And, we want to ensure the next phase of L’Etoile Du Nord upholds these values as well.

We’re currently considering several proposals from a variety of people interested in using the café space, including community kitchens, chefs seeking pop-up space as well as individuals seeking to use the space for cooking classes, wine tastings, and commercial food prep.

We’re excited to see what this next phase brings, and we want to be sure it’s something that is positive for both our customers, the community and the environment!

We expect to have new plans finalized by the end of the summer. In the meantime, those interested in attending our future pop-up dinner events can email Julia at julia@letoiledunordcafe.com to be added to the pop-up dinner mailing list. And, if you’re missing our L’Etoile Du Nord coffee, feel free to come visit us at Velo Du Nord, our bike/coffee shop in Afton!

Thank you for all your support!

Though I wish you well on your new ideas and vision, I can’t help feeling great disappointment personally at the loss (again) of a valued resource for quality food and camaraderie. I have been loyally on board since the early Bikery days and feel like the rug has been pulled out from under me again. Pop up dinners and trips to Afton for a cup of coffee are not on my agenda. The necessities of sensible business and creative decisions are presumed, but sometimes one wishes that the old fashioned quality of a dedicated and skilled merchant content to provide a loyal base of customers with consistent thoughtfully prepared food and in a warm inviting environment would be enough. It seems like your trying to blend old world qualities of art and craft with a 21st century simmering restless discontent and shortened attention span. If this is a mischaracterization of your decision process, I apologize. Nonetheless, I am saddened by the result.

@JJRJR: nicely said, and I, too, am saddened to lose one of the very few places in the Valley that offered ‘real’ food in a charming environment. I woke up yesterday morning planning on making L’Etoile my first stop of the day – to start everything off with a little bit of heaven. Not to be. First the Bikery, now L’Etoile….sad, sad, sad. Fortunately, I can easily have coffee at Velo, but why, other than to support a small business owner? I don’t bike, don’t want to bike, and I don’t want to drink coffee in a bike shop. My hunch is debits exceeded credits and as we all know, that can go on for only so long, but DANG! no more perfectly cooked eggs – dang……..

This news was heartwrenching to hear. We were out of state when we heard, and so upset we would be unable to say goodbye to Chris, Connor, Leanne, Hannah & everyone else. They have become not just friends, but family to us, and getting a superb meal at every visit was just a bonus. We wish everyone well and hope we will see you again. Thank you for all the tremendous breakfasts and wonderful memories. You have been our first stop for our out of town guests as well. This leaves a tremendous void. We were extolling your praises at a similar bistro in California just after we heard the news and raised a mug of coffee to the memories. Farewell, and thank you.

So saddened by this news. Chris, Connor, Leanne, and Hannah are like family to us also. This was a one of a kind top notch oasis for foodies. Always a GREAT experience, warm welcome by a group of people that were passionate about work, always a happy upbeat atmosphere and a “it was so nice to see again” when it was time to leave. Oh and not to mention the best darn coffee around!! Best wishes to everyone of you!
Hoping to be able to attend the pop ups! When do they start?
