The motivation for L’Etoile du Nord began with my childhood in Belgium. It was a thorough education in food—shopping at the local market, canning produce from our garden, and learning to cook from my grandmother. Her philosophy has stayed with me; it is a respect for where food comes from, how it is made, and a belief that our community can provide all we need. That’s how we do it here. Everything is sourced as locally as possible from farmers in the St. Croix River Valley.
We use premium organic ingredients in our baked goods and seasonal meals, all made from scratch each day. To us the details matter, down to our handpicked wines, beers and artisan coffees. The café is also deeply rooted in cycling. It’s in my blood and is my joie de vivre. We offer Kona bikes and HED Wheels at our Vélo Du Nord bike shop in Afton. The St. Croix valley is biking country and we are committed to growing this community. Roll in for a waffle, a coffee or a Belgian brew next time you pass through.
